The Zones of Regulations are a way in which we can identify, understand, and communicate our emotions. It is important to understand how emotions impact us and how we can better manage them (SELF-REGULATE). By learning about the Zones we can do both of these things!
When someone is in the blue zone their body is feeling slow. Common feelings in the Blue Zone are: sadness, feeling tired, bored and/or feeling sick.
The Green Zone is like a traffic light. When we are Green we are READY TO GO! Common feelings in the Green Zone are: happy, calm, being ready to learn, and focused!
This zone is a warning sign that we are starting to lose control. The Yellow Zone helps us recognize that we are about to go Red and may need help in order to go back to Green. Common feelings in the Yellow Zone are: frustrated, being silly or having the wigglies, feeling anxious and possibly excited.
The Red Zone is a point of EXTREME emotions. In the Red Zone it can feel as if we have not control over our bodies (but we do!). Making good decisions is almost impossible in this zone. Common Red Zone feelings are: anger, a sense of terror or extreme fear, and acting aggressively.
Being Self-Regulated means you are in control of your emotions. This does not mean that you may not feel sad or mad occasionally, however, you know how to deal with those emotions and get yourself back into the Green Zone! Being Self-Regulated means we are more able to make friends, finish our homework, preform better on test, feel happier and more!
