What is Data Driven?

Being data driven means collecting and analyzing data. This collecting and analyzing of data then guides the decisions made regarding setting goals and creating steps forward.

Why is Data Driven Important?

Being data driven means that the needs, gaps, strengths and areas of improvement reflect the real world needs of our students and stakeholders involved in our students' success. Without being data drive, students may come out as being the focus of strategies and interventions implemented within the school setting. There are many views when looking at what is best for our students, having data allows us to make educated decisions about how to address their needs and promote their development. Finally, being data driven allows educators to implementing new strategies as the world continues to adapt and change over time. Staying up-to-date on effective teaching strategies and interventions is critical in making sure students leave school the most prepared to be successful outside of it.

What Does Being Data Driven Look Like?

When thinking about what being data driven looks like here at Nashua-Plainfield Elementary, there are two major examples.

  1. This means incorporating assessments within our teaching so that we can gain insight in the effectiveness of our teaching and the current understanding of our students.

  2. The next major example is utilizing researched backed practices that have been shown to be effective in supporting student growth. As the world continues to change, so does the body of research. Going out and finding studies and research then incorporating back into the classroom validates what is being implemented and is equitable to students' education.

Though these are the two major examples of being data driven, there are many other areas and opportunities to interoperate data into our teaching and learning strategies used here at Nashua-Plainfield Elementary.
