Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is dedicated to providing opportunities for every member in our community to develop their full potential. Since 1959, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida has been fulfilling its mission of “Building Lives That Work.”
We provide tools that help people overcome barriers to employment and find meaningful work. We utilize vocational services, youth programs, and disability and veteran services to enable individuals to get back on their feet, secure employment, and develop their careers. Goodwill Industries of Central Florida proudly serves Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia counties.
OUR MISSION: Chances are you, or someone you know, will experience some form of vision loss over your lifetime. Because of an aging population and increased life expectancy, studies forecast that in the state of Florida alone the occurrence of vision loss from eye disorders is expected to more than double in the next three decades.
The health care costs associated with these eye disorders are astronomical. Lighthouse Central Florida is the only private nonprofit in the region that can help mitigate these costs by providing vision specific rehabilitation to residents of Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties who live with blindness or some form of vision loss. Our services are not just for seniors or people who are totally blind.
Lighthouse offers an optimal blend of proven rehabilitation training and real world application to help individuals of all ages, who live with any degree of vision loss, adjust to their reality with grace and confidence so that they can remain active, productive members of our community.
OUR IMPACT It's not just people with sight impairment who benefit from the impact of our services; the entire community benefits through the productive contributions of skilled Lighthouse Central Florida graduates.
Much of the sighted community still harbor outmoded perceptions of what exactly it means to be blind or live with vision loss. These antiquated notions create four barriers to inclusion: discomfort, stigma, pity and fear.
Lighthouse embraces ‘inclusion’ as a core value and we endeavor to serve as a bridge of understanding between the sighted community and our community of blind/visually impaired, while working to remove barriers to inclusion.
Lighthouse is Central Florida's only private, non-profit agency offering a comprehensive range of services to people living with sight impairment in the tri-county area. Through effective programs, proven curricula, certified instructors and years of personal and professional experience, Lighthouse ensures that individuals of all backgrounds have the tools they need to lead productive, independent lives beyond the restrictions once promised by vision loss.
TRANSITION SERVICES: Transition services are provided to students age 14 through 22 that are currently being served by the school system under an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Lighthouse Central Florida employs an expanded core curriculum, which complements the IEP, but also extends into vocational training and social experiences for the student.
The Transition program provides students with skills and experience to facilitate successful transition from high school to post-secondary activities, such as college, vocational school and employment.
Everyday skills to promote independence are also addressed including: cooking, future planning, learning strategies, use of remaining vision, orientation and mobility, problem solving, social skills, sports/leisure and work exploration. The transitions program engages students to go beyond their wildest expectations, which builds an “I can do anything” mindset needed given the obstacles they face. Activities such as skydiving, white-water rafting and rock-climbing are just a few of the activities our students experience further teaching them that no obstacle is too great to overcome.

The Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability programs are the largest of several Federal programs that provide assistance to people with disabilities. While these two programs are different in many ways, both are administered by the Social Security Administration and only individuals who have a disability and meet medical criteria may qualify for benefits under either program.
Social Security Disability Insurance pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are "insured," meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
Supplemental Security Income pays benefits based on financial need.
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state program that helps people who have physical or mental disabilities get or keep a job. VR is committed to helping people with disabilities find meaningful careers.
