John's Induction Ceremony
John McEnroe is a proud graduate of Central in 1973. John was an exceptional athlete, particularly in the sport of golf. John had a remarkable high school athletic career, lettering in golf for three consecutive years from 1971 to 1973. His dedication and skill was not only individual but also instrumental in the success of the team.
The pinnacle of John's athletic achievements at GFC occurred in 1972 and 1973. In 1972, the golf team, under the leadership of Coach Bob Leach, secured the State Team Golf Championship. John also earned the title of All-State Golf Individual in both 1972 and 1973. The following year, John continued to shine, claiming the State Golf Individual Champion title and contributing to the team's success as the State Golf Two Men Champions. Additionally, in 1972, John secured a commendable third place in the State Golf Individual competition.
Beyond the accolades and victories, John cherishes the memories of the strong camaraderie formed within the golf team at GFC. The friendships developed during those years stand out as a significant aspect of his high school experience. After graduating from GFC, John continued to play golf at the University of North Dakota for head coach, Louis Bogan, also a GFC Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee.Â
John and his wife, Nancy, reside in Crosslake, MN where they are enjoying retirement. John and Nancy have two children, Brad (Meghan) and Maggie (Matt) and 4 grandchildren, Brooks, Jett, Arnie and Maeve.
