Nick's Induction Ceremony
During the mid ‘90s GFC’s football and hockey teams were strong competitors in the Eastern Dakota Conference and state. Nick Fohr was a big part of both of those teams as an athlete and a leader from 1993-1995. He was a Varsity letter winner during the ‘93 and ‘94 football seasons helping lead the team to back-to-back state playoff appearances. On the ice, Nick led his team to a state title in 1993 and a runner-up finish in 1994. Nick was a captain of the 1994-95 team, leading his team to the State Championship title and was named MVP of the State Tournament, beating Minot, Red River and then Grafton-Park River in the state title game.
Nick described his time with the football and hockey teams as being part of a family. While a student-athlete at Central, Nick enjoyed spending time with his friends around school and at athletic events. During his Senior year, Nick was named KNOX Male Athlete of the year.
After high school Nick continued his athletic career by playing hockey for the Lincoln stars of the USHL, and then playing four seasons of Division 1 College Hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 1998-2002. Once his playing career was over Nick moved onto coaching as an Assistant Coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha for 3 seasons. He then landed a coaching job with USA Hockey’s National Development team program in 2013-14 and has been with the program ever since. He is currently in his first season as the Head Coach of Team USA’s under-18 team. Nick was in Grand Forks in December 2023 leading Team USA to a 4-3 overtime victory over UND at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Nick currently resides in Dexter Michigan. He is married to his wife Lindsey, and they have 3 sons, Carter (13), Fischer (9), and Cooper (5).
