Why 3Ps?
Why 3Ps?
Creating an engaging ESL classroom experience using the 3Ps—Preparation, Presentation, and Production—helps my students develop their language skills effectively. Here’s how each stage plays out inside the classroom:
Preparation: Before the lesson, I carefully design syllabi, worksheets, and PowerPoint presentations that align with the topic and students’ proficiency level based on the main textbook. I prepare visual aids, vocabulary lists, and interactive activities to build background knowledge. More so, I include pre-reading and pre-listening exercises to introduce key concepts and set expectations.
Presentation: Through group work, it fosters collaboration and allow students to share ideas while working on interactive tasks. I also introduce a storybook and guide students in creating a story map, helping them identify characters, settings, events, and main ideas. I also encourage participation by asking comprehension questions, using think-pair-share strategies, or role-playing parts of the story.
Production: Students practice speaking skills through discussions, storytelling, or presentations based on the storybook. While writing activities by giving them my prepared templates, such as short paragraph, summarizing the story or creating an alternate ending, help reinforce grammar and sentence structure. Lastly, the pair or group activities allow students to refine their responses, ensuring they use vocabulary and sentence patterns correctly.
Each phase builds upon the last, ensuring students engage, collaborate, and actively use English in real-world contexts.
