Welcome to my school assignment at Tianjhong Elementary School! Established in 1914, the school has maintained nearly the same facilities since its founding. Currently, it has a dedicated team of 89 teaching staff and 700 plus enrolled students. I arrived here on May 18, 2023, and have been teaching International Education to Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. Each class consists of 23 to 29 students, with a maximum teaching load of 20 sessions per week. Since I can only meet each class once a week for 40 minutes, I make sure to maximize every session by incorporating all essential language skills—listening/watching, reading, writing/drawing, and speaking—into the thematic courses I design.

Beyond classroom instruction, I also contribute to major school events by creating interactive games for occasions such as Children's Day, Christmas, Sports Day, and the school anniversary. Additionally, I assist in coaching students for reading competitions and help refine English-language school signage for clarity and effectiveness. During summer and winter breaks, I extend my teaching by conducting English camps for various levels.

What I appreciate most about my school's location is its accessibility to essential amenities. The nearby train stations—both TRA and HSR—along with banks, night markets, local restaurants, tea shops, and bakeries provide a vibrant and convenient environment. Since my apartment is within walking distance, I enjoy commuting on foot, which is perfect for someone who loves walking like me!

The main gate is located along Zhongzhou Road, while the other two gates are near Tianzhong Junior High School and the public library.

The statue of Confucius, known as the 'Father of Education,' is located at the facade of the school premises.

Taiwan's flag colors represent the three core principles of the country. Blue-symbol of justice, democracy, and liberty. White -democracy and equality—the brightness of the livelihood of the people. Red-fraternity, nationalism, and sacrifice.

Upon entering the school, the first building you’ll see is Si Wei. It houses the classrooms for Grades 1, 2, and 3, along with most of the offices, including the principal’s office, receiving area, clinic, mini-library, and storage for sports equipment.

The Li Xing Building is mostly unoccupied on the upper floors. However, the ground floor houses the Special Education Department and an additional English classroom wherein I and the other Local English Teachers also utilized during English Camps.

The covered walkway provides protection from sun and rain, allowing students and staff to move safely and comfortably between buildings in any weather. It also helps maintain order and safety by guiding foot traffic along designated paths within the campus.

The Activity Center serves as the main venue for formal and indoor programs, such as graduation ceremonies. During other times of the week, it functions as a badminton court and hosts various community wellness activities, such as yoga, dance, and similar programs.

The Bade Building is occupied by the Grades 4, 5, and 6 classrooms, as well as classes for Computer, Science, Social Studies, Health, and English on the third floor. While my classroom for International Education subject and the library is both at the ground floor.

Facing the building is the oval that serves as both a gathering place and an assembly area, hosting major outdoor events. And its stage acts as the central platform for school activities and celebrations.

The school oval serves multiple purposes, primarily related to physical education, recreation, training ground for the soccer team, and school-wide events. It also functions as an emergency evacuation area, especially that Taiwan is prone to earthquakes.

The statue of the male school mascot bears the number 6210, symbolizing Grade 6, Class 2, and student number 10. Coincidentally, Allen is the student with that number in the graduating class of 2025 and making it a special honor for me to take a picture with him.

The playground helps elementary students grow in many ways. It supports physical development by building strength, balance, and coordination. It also teaches social skills like sharing, taking turns, and playing with others. The playground gives them a break from classroom learning and offers a safe space to explore, move, and have fun.

The covered courts are used for P.E. classes, especially for ball games and other physical activities. During rainy days, they also serve as a playground so students can still play and exercise in a safe, dry space. Next to it are the basketball courts, where many boys enjoy playing.
