Statement of Purpose for the TFETP
Securing a work opportunity abroad is an incredible experience—an opportunity to both teach and travel, enriching not only my own perspective but also that of my students. I firmly believe that traveling is one of the best ways to gain knowledge, which I can integrate into my teaching.
From the beginning of my career, I have been deeply committed to helping children with special needs, particularly those struggling with English communication skills. Recognizing the limited opportunities for educators in this field within my home country, I sought international experience to further develop my skills. Over the years, I have taught in Hong Kong as a tutor and shadow teacher for children aged 7 to 12 with mild conditions. I later returned to the Philippines to continue working in special education before taking a leap of faith and securing a teaching position in Indonesia, where I spent almost years working with students of diverse nationalities.
These international experiences have shaped me into a responsible, adaptable, and culturally aware educator. I thrive in varied learning environments and embrace the challenges that come with working in different countries. Beyond imparting knowledge to students, I also enjoy sharing my insights with fellow educators while learning from their expertise. Teaching, after all, is a two-way process.
The opportunity to work under the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFEP) under the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan, one of the most visited and culturally rich countries in Asia, feels like winning a pot of gold—a chance I would never trade. As an educator and avid traveler, I find immense value in integrating global experiences into my lessons, fostering curiosity and engagement among my students. Having explored several Southeast Asian countries, as well as Australia, I now hope to bring my passion for teaching to Taiwan, where I can continue growing both personally and professionally.
Beyond its breathtaking landscapes, well-preserved traditions, and efficient transportation system, Taiwan offers a unique lifestyle that I am eager to embrace. Though I am not yet proficient in Mandarin, I am eager to learn the language to communicate effectively and connect with local communities.
Adapting to diverse environments and immersing myself in different cultures has been a driving force in my career. I am confident that living and working in Taiwan will further refine my teaching approach, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to students' lives. Additionally, I plan to organize an after-school club that will offer engaging activities to support students’ personal and academic growth.
Teaching is not just a profession; it is a lifelong mission to inspire, empower, and make a difference. I am eager to embark on this new journey and contribute to Taiwan's education system through TFETP.
