Every winter camp, I love sharing the beauty and richness of Philippine culture with the students. It’s a fun and exciting time where they don’t just learn about the Philippines—they get to experience it! We play traditional Filipino games like tumbang preso and sipa, which always bring lots of laughter and energy. I also teach them about weaving, where they try simple patterns and learn how important weaving is to many Filipino communities. It’s amazing to see their curiosity grow as they discover new things.
One of the highlights is cooking Filipino food together. We once made pastil, a delicious rice meal wrapped in banana leaves, and the students really enjoyed the unique flavors and hands-on experience. Through activities like this, they gain a deeper understanding of Filipino traditions, values, and everyday life. More than just a lesson, winter camp becomes a space for connection, fun, and appreciation of another culture. It’s always a joy to see the students having fun while learning something meaningful.
