Swivl

"Turn classroom observations into a teacher driven movement with the potential to change anything".

A video recording resource, Swivl allows for teaching observations to be recorded using an iPad. The user is able to manoeuvre around the classroom whilst the marker picks up any movement. The marker can either be hand held or attached to the user via a lanyard for example (recommended).

It is important to consider the placement of the device as backgrounds (e.g. whiteboards), lighting and angles can affect the quality of the recording.

Uses

1. Lecture/Seminar Capture: Record your sessions for a more natural and effective classroom observation which can be used for students with revision help.
2. Peer Feedback: Give annotated feedback to other members of staff using the comments section next to the video (this can only be done by people who have Swivl accounts).
3. Self Reflection: Look back at your teaching practice and get the perspective you need to improve and keep time stamped notes for future reference.
4. Flipped Classroom: Pre-record parts of sessions to give students an insight into the next teaching session. You can pre-upload content from any source.
5. Professional Learning Community: Build a community of collaboration with organised cohorts of teachers sharing video and dialogue.
6. Best Practice Libraries: With the ability to share practice you can build a 'Best Practice Library' for everyone to learn from.

Echo360

Similar to Swivl, The Echo360 resource is a service that integrates personal and classroom video capture. The resource has student engagement tools, and analytic tools to maximize student participation and engagement for both campus-based and online courses .

The use of Echo360 allows students to have 24/7 access to presentation materials, any classroom discussions and the lecture/seminar itself. The resource generates data to help academics identify any positives or negatives within their sessions.
