Screencasting simply means recording whatever you are doing on your computer screen. This may or may not be accompanied by voice narration or on screen annotations.
Screencasting can be an effective way to create flipped classroom resources. This may mean recording and narrating a PowerPoint or creating a video that clearly sets out the task you would like your students to perform.
Screencasts can also be a quick way to create a visual 'how to' guide which may cover something such as assessment submission procedures or where to find certain things on the module site. Screencasts can be embedded into a Blackboard site to make them easily available to students.
Screencast-o-matic is the recommended software for screencasting and the full version is available to all SHU staff. Instructions on how to access and use Screencast-o-matic are below.
You can also use Screencast-o-matic to edit and annotate the footage you record, if you would like to receive training on this area of the software, contact the TEL Team.
Above is an example of a screencast using Screencast-o-matic
