There are many benefits for students who use Turnitin formatively. These include helping to improve academic writing skills, the use of citations and ability to paraphrase. In addition, uploading summative work helps support the University's Academic Conduct Regulation. The faculty of HWB therefore actively promotes the use of Turnitin for both formative and summative work.
PLEASE NOTE: The faculty has revised how staff and students are expected to engage with Turnitin (TII) for 18/19. This is as a direct result of staff feedback and university drivers. We will now no longer require staff to bulk upload students' work to TII. Instead, students should be asked to upload both their formative and summative work to a single TII link for each appropriate task. This upload link should be housed away from the summative blackboard submission points to avoid confusion between the official graded submission point (blackboard) and the students formative originality checker (Turnitin).
If a student does not upload their summative work to TII, then academics are expected to upload on behalf of the student. In addition, if a student only uploads work to the TII link and not the Grade Centre submission point, they must not be classed as a non-submission; with the TII work being classed as their summative submission and marked accordingly.
Please visit the HWB example module site to see how we recommend your Turnitin submission points are set up. Please Note: you must be logged into shuspace to access the example site links.

We have discovered an issue where users attempting to access Turnitin Originality Reports by clicking on the Similarity Score when using Windows 10 and Internet Explorer are being prompted to login to Turnitin.
We have reported the issue to Turnitin. In the meantime, both staff and students are advised to use an alternative browser to access Originality Reports, or if they only have access to Internet Explorer:
We will advise further when we receive an update on this issue.
Please find a range of resources around Turnitin including the aspects discussed above along with how to interpret Turnitin reports.
