Mind-mapping
Mindomo is a simple mind-mapping tool that you can use on-line on your desktop or via the App on your tablet. It allows you to easily create a mind map and visual depiction of key issues or topics.
You could choose to use this tool to outline the roles and responsibilities of the professionals within your team, summarise key issues relating to a case study or just depict various components or aspects relating to a particular topic.
Here's an example Mindomo mindmap depicting some elements of the Innovations in Teaching and Assessment Community of Enhancement. Consideration needs to be given though as to how you will be displaying your mindmap as too much detail will be hard to read if displayed on a standard projector screen. A live link will allows the presenter/viewer to manipulate the size and navigate the map.
If you want to include images and graphics think about how they add value
Are you including images to break up text and if so how are they supporting or enhancing your key message?
Think about some common mistakes that are often made in PowerPoint; how can you avoid those mistakes?
Consider the amount of text on your slides, the use of colour and contrast as well as the images you use. Are they helping to make a point or a distraction?
When using images from the internet ensure you have checked the copyright permissions; searching for images with creative commons license will help you to avoid inadvertently breaching copyright.
You may wish to create your own graphics using various apps / tools. A few are outlined below. If you require any further information or guidance then please don't hesitate to contact the HWB TEL Team
Easel.ly is a free online tool that allows you to utilise and adapt templates to create your own info graphic.
You could use this app to depict a patient pathway or outline the various professionals who would be involved at different stages in the patient's journey. There are lots of different templates you can use that allow you to convey lots of different types of message (not just a journey). Here's one I have previously created to depict the transition from classroom learning to online. The image itself is fairly simple; but the activity in the session that accompanied the image explored what we mean by the terms 'blended' and 'flexible' learning
