Concert was over by 7-7:30
Songs performed:
“Winterlight”- 7th and 8th

“Carol of the Bells”- 7th and 8th
“Cartoon Christmas”- 7th and 8th
“African Noel”- 7th
“In Excel”- 8th
The choir concert was amazing. The songs were very unique and different in sound. However, people felt like we could have done better with matching the rocking movements to the beat of the songs. Additionally, some felt the concert was long and certain songs were a little quiet. Nevertheless, the concert was good. For the song “Winterlight,” overall everybody hit the notes, but in the future this is something to be practiced. “Carol of the Bells” was great; members of the audience said they loved the splitting of the different parts. “Cartoon Christmas” was enjoyable because it gave a festive feeling. The singing of “African Noel” was exceptional; we just needed to work on the rocking. The best song performed was “In Excel.” The audience size was big; every single chair was filled. The preparation for the concert was long, but eventful. The devising helped us get more comfortable with having all choir classes together. The difficulty of preparing for the concert was that we had to be able to get the choir to rock on beat, hit the right notes, and time the music and song lyrics because some people were late and some were early. Now, as for the choir director and teacher, Mr. Colakovic is an amazing director and I hope whatever other songs we perform are just as significant as these songs were.
Winter Band Concert Review
by Nasir Watkins and David Mihal
The band concert took place on December 5, 2023 from 6:30-8. It was led by Mr. Cheek and Mr. Danielson. Admission was free with a donation of a canned good to Ross Township. This band concert featured several bands. It started with the sixth grade band. They played the “Dreidel Song,” “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas,” and “Jingle Bells.” Then the seventh grade band played three songs: “Bandroom Boogie,” “Up on the Housetop,” and “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.” Afterwards, the eighth grade band played fan-favorite songs, “All I Want For Christmas is You” and “Legends of the Eagles” by David Shaffer. Then the symphonic band played; they were a combination of freshman and intermediate bands. They played “Let It Go” from Frozen and a Christmas sing along, as well as “Jingle Bell Rock.” Tatum Stansil thought the trombones did an amazing job and she loved all of what the advanced band played. The advanced band played a disney song and “Polar Express.” Destiny Young, who was a member of the audience that night, loved the advanced band because her favorite song was “Polar Express.” In our opinion, the audience enjoyed the show, all five bands showed incredible talent, and overall, it went really well.
Orchestra Concert Review
By Destiny Young
The Orchestra Winter Concert was on December 7th, 2023. I also played in the concert. The songs we played were “Across the Wind” and “Secret Agent Sugar Plum.” We were told to envision some things for each song. So for “Across the Wind,” we pictured icy plains with cold winds that picked up and slowed down. For “Secret Agent Sugar Plum,” we pictured James Bond wearing a pink tutu doing spy things. The pictures actually helped us a lot to get in the mindset. Talking about the pictures we created, it actually calmed our nerves when Ms.Edwards told the crowd about it. They started laughing about the “Secret Agent Sugar Plum” picture we created. While practicing and preparing for the concert, we were quite stressed about “Across the Wind.” It’s a three page song with so many different dynamics that we weren’t sure we could play it. However, as time went on and the more we practiced, we had finally been ready to play the entire song with little to no trouble. We had our ups and downs with “Secret Agent Sugar Plum” as well. “Across the Wind” was the first song we played since it was two pages long. While playing “Across the Wind,” the members of the orchestra were slowing down a bit. There were no pauses between any of the pages so we had to play it through completely. I’d say we played pretty well and we even kept up with the dynamics. “Secret Agent Sugar Plum” came afterwards and it was great. Although, since it came after “Across the Wind,” our arms were tired. We pushed through both songs because we wanted our practice to be worth it. After the concert we talked about how we were so nervous, but were definitely proud of ourselves. I’d like to add a shout out to Ms. Edwards for leading us through that concert and believing in us even when we didn’t.
