PE/Health

Each Mt. Vernon graduate must complete 1 credit of PE as well as 1/2 credit of Health. The following classes will count toward the required P.E. graduation requirement:

  • General P.E.
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Personal Fitness


Course Descriptions

Strength & Conditioning

The class is designed to provide each student with the knowledge needed to understand the importance of strength and fitness training to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Each student will work individually and together with the class to improve their own strength and conditioning level. This will be achieved through the use of free weights, exercise machines, other equipment, body weight exercises, running, jumping, stretching, rhythmic movement, Yoga, free play and other activities of a physical nature.

Pre- Requisites: The student should be healthy enough to engage in strenuous physical activity, including lifting free weights, using exercise machines, running, jumping, stretching and other activities of a physical nature.


Boy’s P.E.

An active course designed for everyone...team games rotate weekly

Pre-Requisites: None


Personal Fitness

An entry-level strength and conditioning class without the use of the weight room. Workouts will be completed daily as a class with the objective of increasing the student's physical activity and knowledge to help them stay active throughout their lifetime.

Pre-Requisites: The student should be healthy enough to engage in strenuous physical activity, including the use of dumbbells, kettlebells, running, jumping, stretching and other activities of a physical nature.

Girl’s P.E.

Introduction to lifetime activities/fitness. Activities may include: volleyball, soccer, Spikeball, bowling, fishing, ultimate frisbee, racquet sports, hockey, lacrosse, line dancing, Zumba, circuit training, fitness walking, and yoga.

Health

Health ½

Required course for graduation - basic Health principles to be covered include - positive choices/healthy self-esteem/decision-making skills/fitness/nutrition/muscular and skeletal system/cardiorespiratory system/drugs & alcohol use/sexual health /teen pregnancy/STIs/ First Aid & CPR
