College Credit Options

Embedded within the Mt. Vernon regular course offerings are 17 Dual Credit courses in which a student can receive up to 30 college credit hours during their time at MVHS.

In addition, students are permitted to participate in college courses that are not taught by MVHS instructors through internet-based instruction. These courses may count toward their high school graduation requirements while receiving college credit (Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment). *see counselor for more details and guidelines.

Current advanced (Dual Credit) MVHS courses that are eligible for college credit:

College English can earn 3 college credit hours per year

College Algebra can earn 3 college credit hours per year

Floriculture I & II can earn 1 college credit hour per semester

Agriculture Management I & II can earn 1 college credit hour per semester

Green House I & II - can earn 1 college credit hour per semester

Animal Science I & II - can earn 1 college credit hour per semester

Conservation I & II - can earn 1 college credit hour per semester

Forestry I & II - can earn 1 college credit hour per semester

Career Development Event – can earn 2 college credit hours per year.

  • Child Development – can earn 6 college credit hours

Advanced Computer Applications – can earn 3 college credit hours

  • Computer Information Science - can earn 3 college credit hours

All 17 courses are taught by MVHS certified staff who qualify for Dual Credit by local University Standards.

Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment General Information: (Any college level course taken by an MVHS student during the school year in lieu of a the traditional MVHS class.

- A 3 Hour College Course will receive .5 High School Credits.

- A 4-5 Hour College Course will receive 1.0 High School Credits.

· A maximum of two courses may be taken through an outside institution during a single

semester, which includes either a Summer or January-Term course.

· The letter grade earned during this process will be weighted in the same manner as shown in

BOE Policy IKA.

· In the event that the course in questioned does not receive a passing grade (F or Incomplete),

the student must then retake the course through a standard Mt. Vernon High School class.
