In the MAFLT Program, students take a course called Assessment for Foreign Language Teaching. I took this course during my first semester in the program and designed an assessment that reflected my knowledge at the time. The assessment is tied to a curriculum set in place by my foreign language department, which is more focused on grammar and vocabulary, so those elements are present. Below you will find the assessment I created along with my report over the assessment and a video presentation describing it.
Since I have taken the assessment course and created this assessment, my personal views in regards to foreign language teaching and assessment have shifted and evolved. Because of this, I have focused more on assessing students over their comprehension and understanding of the language and focusing less on grammar and accuracy. As part of my Experiential Module, I created an Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA), which can be accessed here. Looking to the future, I want to focus more on assessing students' performance and proficiency in the language, showcasing what they can actually do with the language.
