Although I have experience creating many types of assessments for all the language skills (reading, listening, writing, speaking), I am most proud of the Integrated Performance Assessments I created. These IPAs assess students' abilities in the three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational by having them complete a task in each mode all related to a common theme. Students are therefore asked to use the language in meaningful ways to complete tasks, which demonstrates what students can DO with the language, not just what they know ABOUT the language. Although these assessments take longer to administer, they have more value than a traditional test because, as students work through the tasks, they are still learning and using the language. In this way, IPAs are an extension of student learning.
