Thank you for visiting my language teaching portfolio. My name is Mikaela L. Filson, or Profa, as my students call me. I am secondary Spanish teacher, certified in Colorado and New York, currently working in Broomfield, Colorado.
I grew up in beautiful Western New York, where I began studying Spanish as a foreign language in 8th grade, as many of my students do. During the summer before my senior year of high school, I took the opportunity to participate in an exchange program where I lived with a host family in Madrid, Spain. This experience changed my life and set me on the path to where I am today. I went on to study Spanish and Secondary Education at Elmira College, during which time I studied abroad in Segovia, Spain and completed a teaching internship in Santiago de Chile. I also had the opportunity to travel to Peru and Puerto Rico during this time. I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2016 and moved to Colorado weeks later, at which point I officially started my teaching career.
During the past seven years of teaching, I have taken two different groups of students to Spain, in 2017 and again in 2019, and have gained much valuable experience in the classroom. I have continued my professional growth by pursuing a Master of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching from Michigan State University. I graduated in August of 2022 and this portfolio is a culmination of the work I have done while a student in this program. It serves as evidence of my learning and demonstrates my growth as a master teacher and a professional in the field of foreign language teaching.
Thank you for your interest in my portfolio. I genuinely enjoy discussing my work and foreign language teaching in general, so please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
Un saludo,
Profesora Mikaela L. Filson
