Master's Project for the MA in Foreign Language Teaching
The impetus for this project came from my work with the Local LCTL Assessments (LoLA) Project. In working with teachers on using the project's self-assessment template, we found that many language teachers, both novice and experienced, lacked formal training on writing specific and measurable Can-Do Statements. This prevented them from using their statements to create self-assessments which would facilitate measurement of their students' proficiency growth.
This project provides training materials (see list below) for language educators to help them learn how to write locally-relevant and measurable Can-Do Statements and then to use those statements to create self-assessments for their language courses. All materials are housed on a publicly accessible website, and the materials are designed so that teachers can use them for self-directed learning as well as for department-organized professional development.
Additionally, the project website serves as a resource for the Local LCTL Assessments (LoLA) Project, since these materials are language agnostic resources for teachers who are developing self-assessments using Can-Do Statements.
