On this page, you will find several examples of my assessment designs. I am particularly passionate about using assessments which promote learner agency, such as peer and self-assessment. Additionally, when appropriate and beneficial (e.g. to present authentic texts), I incorporate technology into my assessment designs.
Below is a video explanation as well as a written rationale for an assessment design that I created for Novice-High Spanish students to assess reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The topic of the assessment is daily routines, and the entirety of the assessment is able to be administered online.
Also included is a peer assessment designed for Novice-Low middle school Spanish students. This assessment, however, could easily be adapted to other proficiency levels and contexts.
Finally, you will find a link to my work on Can-Do self-assessments, including a rationale paper on using Can-Do self-assessments, teacher trainings and guides, practice activities, and self-assessment templates.
This video walks the viewer through my assessment design. It shows the technological tools being utilized, the rubrics which were created, and most importantly, the rationale behind each design decision.
The design rationale shared here describes my creation of the online assessment, including the use of authentic materials and technological tools and the specific task and item types within each section of the assessment. Additionally, it addresses assessment issues related to reliability and validity, and how this design attempted to address those issues.
I developed this peer assessment to assess writing skills for a project in which students have created a picture book story. Included is the training guide for students as well as the peer assessment checklist.
