My name is Kristi Waite and I am a French Teacher in north-western Vermont. I teach all levels of high-school French at Bellows Free Academy (BFA) in St. Albans, VT. In recent years, I have served as advisor to our school’s International Club and National Honor society. I enjoy collaborating with colleagues and learning new things every day from my students.
I am lucky to live in the very same town where I teach, which makes for a short commute and a strong connection to the community. I am a proud Vermonter, although I attended high school in New York and college in Arkansas. I also worked in Lyon, France for eight months as an English assistant, and have subsequently returned to France twice on school trips. Additionally, given our proximity to the Canadian border, I enjoy visiting Montréal and Québec City with students or friends. I love planning itineraries and visiting new places, but fair warning- my travel settings reminiscent of the Oregon Trail: grueling pace and meager rations. : )

I absolutely adore musicals and have participated in two summer shows put on by local theater production groups. I have also appeared in small cameo roles in BFA’s productions of Matilda and Shrek. I was also part of a local dance group called SynRgy Dance prior to the birth of my daughter.
I am a huge fan of many Québécois musical artists, most notably 2Frères and Marie-Mai (whose wax figure I posed with at Musée Grévin in Montréal.)
My husband and I welcomed a beautiful daughter in 2022. She brings so much joy to our lives every day. I am happy to say that I survived my first year juggling motherhood with ‘teacherhood’ and am hoping that things only get easier from here. Fingers crossed!
I strive to incorporate my aforementioned affinity for music, games, and media into my classes as much as possible. I incorporate many songs into my lessons, both learning songs and authentic contemporary songs in French. I've developed a list of Francophone artists that I think my students might enjoy; one year I even inspired a student to attend a Coeur de Pirate concert in Quebec with her mother! My students have also created their own music videos meant to entice middle school students to take French! Check out the examples below:
