Teaching Philosophy

What do I believe about teaching and learning a second language? 

The essay below presents key principles that I use to guide my language teaching and also explains how I carry out those principles in my classroom.  You will discover that my teaching style integrates many different methods, personalizing them to the specific context of the learners in my classes.  Drawing inspiration from varied sources, including authentic texts, colleagues, professional development, and online resources, I craft my own lessons tailored to the interests and needs of my students.  I pride myself on keeping students engaged and invested through the design of dynamic activities appealing to a variety of different learning styles, real-world connections and applications, and authentic, meaning-focused instruction.  My lessons incorporate a balance of communicative, intercultural, and sociolinguistic competence training opportunities.  Overall, I strive to maintain a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, the main objective of which is to inspire students to find enjoyment in learning French so that they willingly continue to engage with the language in their personal lives and further education.
