Video Conferencing Tips for Parents

In the interest of student safety, district employees will record any session where 1 teacher and 1 student are online at the same time.

  • Make space for learning

    • Choose a common area for your child to participate in video conferences. Preferably at a table or desk.

  • Limit distractions

    • Keep pets secure in another room and ask family members not to disturb the student.

  • Maintain a routine

    • Students function best when they maintain a routine as close to normal as possible. Wake them up as if it were a regular school day, have them dress for school, and have lunch at the same time.

  • Be respectful of all students' right to privacy

    • Realize that conducting video sessions in a common area of your home may allow others in your home to hear discussions and comments from other students, which could potentially cause issues with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). FERPA makes school related information and personal information confidential and prohibits sharing that information with unrelated persons. This includes, grades, names, ages, etc. Please be aware that any information, including audio and videos shared in these sessions is confidential, and sharing that information would violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

  • Schedule time for fun

    • While this isn't a vacation, try to have fun. Play board games, card games, or go outside and play catch and get some fresh air.
