Elementary K-5 At-School Learning Plan

Plan A involves students attending school five days a week following our normal schedules.

School Day Times

  • Elementary schools will follow their building's school day times which are listed below:

      • Beasley and Blades: 8:00 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.

      • Bierbaum, Forder, Hagemann, OES, Point, Rogers, Trautwein, and Wohlwend: 8:45 am to 3:35 pm

      • MOSAIC: 9:10 am to 4:00 pm

Safety and Wellness

  • Staff Members:

      • The Mehlville School District has purchased Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Mehlville employees to be able to wear during times when they are at school. This includes face coverings and face shields. Additionally, plexiglass barriers have been installed at various points in the building, signage has been posted within the building to practice social distancing and staff are to review the screening questions related to their own personal health on a daily basis.

      • All staff members will follow the elementary safety procedures. These procedures cover a variety of topics, including the following:

        • arrival and dismissal procedures,

        • social distancing measures,

        • materials that may need to be taken home in the event of a shutdown,

        • traffic flow inside buildings,

        • hand washing schedules,

        • the use of playgrounds and cafeterias,

        • the status of visitors during the school day

  • Students:

      • At this time, students 5 and older are required to wear masks. IEP accommodations for students with disabilities must be met related to Health related services. Students will be washing/sanitizing hands regularly during the day. Parents should review the health screening questions to assess their child's daily wellbeing.

Curriculum

  • New curriculum will be taught. Instruction will be based on the district-written curriculum which can be found on our district website under Elementary Curriculum

  • Teachers will create a daily schedule, building time in for all subjects.

  • Students with IEP's or receiving other types of documented services--Students must continue to be provided services based upon the goals of their IEP's and/or other service documents. Services at the K-12 level are provided by Special School District, in partnership with the Mehlville School District.

  • Recommendations for independent reading minutes by grade level are as follows (students may need to work their way up to these expectations):

      • Kindergarten and First Grade - 60 minutes/week

      • Second and Third Grade - 80 minutes/week

      • Fourth and Fifth Grade - 100 minutes/week

  • Recommendations for i-Ready minutes (students may need to work their way up to these expectations):

      • K-5: 40-50 minutes/week

Communication

Classroom teachers will:

  • communicate to families frequently via district Gmail, phone calls, and/or through SeeSaw or Google Classroom

  • utilize interpreters for families that need them

Student Feedback

  • Elementary teachers will continue to utilize standards-based grading. To learn more about this type of grading system, click here. To view the power standards and rubrics, go to the district website which is linked here.

  • Teachers will:

      • provide verbal feedback during small group instruction and one-on-one instruction

      • provide written or verbal feedback on student work

      • collect assessment information on power standards through observations, conversations, and written work

      • formally report out progress on the power standards using SIS four times a year

Food and Nutrition Services

Schools will continue to provide breakfast and lunch, free of charge, to all students through December. This includes days that students are in the building. Click here for information.
