Middle School Blended Learning Plan
Plan B is a blended learning model with staggered attendance for students. Plan B allows for enhanced social distancing by reducing the total number of students on campus by half. These two groups will be divided based on student last name. Households who have a student with the last name beginning A through K would be physically present at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Households who have a student with the last name of L through Z would be physically present at school on Wednesdays and Fridays. Building principals will communicate assigned days for families. On Mondays, all students will receive virtual instruction, similar to what was offered during Plan C (Connected) at the start of the school year.

SAFETY AND WELLNESS
Staff Members:
The Mehlville School District has purchased Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Mehlville employees to be able to wear during times when they are at school. This includes face coverings and face shields. Additionally, plexiglass barriers have been installed at various points in the building, signage has been posted within the building to practice social distancing and staff are to review the screening questions related to their own personal health on a daily basis.
All staff members will follow the middle school safety procedures. This covers:
arrival and dismissal procedures
social distancing measures
materials that may need to be taken home in the event of a shutdown
traffic flow inside buildings
hand washing schedules
use of playgrounds and cafeterias
status of visitors during the school day
Students:
At this time, students 5 and older are required to wear masks. IEP accommodations for students with disabilities must be met related to Health related services. Students will be washing/sanitizing hands regularly during the day. Parents should review the health screening questions to assess their child's daily well being.
CURRICULUM
Instruction will be based on the district-written curriculum which can be found on our district website under Middle Curriculum.
Students with IEP's or other services required: Students must continue to be provided services based upon the goals of their IEP's and/or other service documents. Services at the K-12 level are provided by Special School District, in partnership with the Mehlville School District.
Virtual Mondays:
Your student will connect with teachers via Google Meet for instruction (Student Guide to Google Meet) following the Virtual Schedule above.
Days when students are physically at school (either Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday pending cohort)
New curriculum will be taught following the building daily schedule
Days when students are learning at home (either Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday pending cohort):
Your student will be provided a variety of learning activities to complete at home that will reinforce content taught on days at school. Building principals will provide further guidance as to the amount of homework that will be assigned to students on these days.
COMMUNICATION
Classroom teachers will:
Communicate to families frequently via district Gmail, phone calls, and Google Classroom.
Utilize interpreters for families that need them.
STUDENT FEEDBACK
Teachers will continue to provide timely feedback to students and assign grades as they would in a physical classroom. 6th and 7th grade core subjects (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science), along with 6-8th grade Physical Education, Health, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Visual Arts will assign Standards-Based Grades to assignments in SIS, which will be converted to letter grades at the end of the semester. 8th grade core subjects and the remaining Encore subjects will continue to assign A, B, C, D, or Failing letter grades based on assignments entered into the SIS student grading system.
