Message from Dr. Brian Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning

The district curriculum team has created a learning plan for all students to be used when their school is in a "Blended" phase.

The purpose of this plan is to provide communication related to learning opportunities that focus on the most essential elements of the curriculum . Students will be exposed to new curriculum while in a "Blended" phase and teachers will be expected to deliver instruction to students no matter what plan the district is in.

In a blended learning environment, students will experience a virtual day on Mondays and in-person instruction on Tuesdays/Thursdays or Wednesdays/Fridays (depending on the cohort they are assigned). More information about your student's cohort will come from your student's building principal.

Concepts such as school day times, safety and wellness, curriculum, communication, student feedback and resources are included in this plan.

If you have any questions related to your student and their schedule, please contact your individual building.

Common Language Used in Connected Learning

Synchronous Communication - in online and distance learning, education and communication happen in real time through video conferencing, phone communication, and live editing of shared documents.

Asynchronous Communication - in online and distance learning, education and communication happen in a one-way format, via emails, recorded videos, and commenting.

Online Learning - in an Online Learning model, digital tools and platforms are used for instruction, communication, and feedback. A blend of synchronous and asynchronous communication provides students choice and flexibility in how they access the content.

Flipped Classroom Model- Students rotate on a fixed schedule between face-to-face, teacher-guided practice and online instruction of the same subject from a remote location.

Office Hours - during set Office Hours, teachers should check email, communicate with parents/guardians as needed, check on student progress and continue to plan for future lessons.
