Organization and Planning

  • A master schedule for the week will be shared with you and your child. This will consist of:

        • consistent and predictable timing of whole class instruction for core subjects (reading, writing, math, science, and social studies) and specials (music, art, PE, library, and class meetings)

        • times your child will be participating in small group and one-on-one Google Meet instruction

  • Your child's teachers will be teaching in real-time with Google Meet every day. In addition, your child's teacher may also post or send instructional videos that can be viewed outside of the Google Meet scheduled sessions.

  • Your child will also be assigned work to be completed outside of class time. This may include:

        • Watching posted videos to be viewed prior to class time.

        • Independent reading (your child may need to work their way up to the expectations below):

            • Kindergarten and First Grade - goal of 60 minutes/week

            • Second and Third Grade - goal of 80 minutes/week

            • Fourth and Fifth Grade - goal of 100 minutes/week

        • iReady Math (students may need to work their way up to these expectations):

            • Grades K-5: goal of 40-50 minutes/week

  • Instruction will be based on the district-written curriculum which can be found on our district website linked here: Elementary Curriculum.

  • Students with IEPs or other services required will continue to be provided based upon the goals of their IEPs and/or other service documents. Services at the K-12 level are provided by Special School District in partnership with the Mehlville School District.

  • At home learning tips include:

        • Create a learning space, including a hard surface (desk or table) upon which students can place their Chromebook and other necessary items.

        • Remove distractions.

        • Set timers or create a calendar with times your child needs to get into a Google Meet for class.

Communication and Content Delivery

Classroom teachers will:

  • utilize either SeeSaw or Google Classroom as their platform for communication to students and parents - your child's teacher will inform you which tool they will be using and how your child will access information. Teachers may also have a Google Site with links and updated information.

  • utilize Google Meet for synchronous video communication.

  • record some lessons/videos and these will be posted on SeeSaw or Google Classroom.

  • monitor how long students are in front of a computer screen.

  • communicate frequently with parents using their district email account.

  • communicate via phone when needed and utilize interpreters for families that need them.

Students will:

  • engage in lessons over Google Meet daily.

  • watch posted recorded videos/lessons.

  • communicate with their teacher and post their work on either SeeSaw or Google Classroom.

Student Feedback

  • Elementary teachers will continue to utilize standards-based grading. To learn more about this type of grading system, click here. To view the power standards and rubrics, go to the district website which is linked here.

  • Teachers will:

      • provide verbal feedback during small group instruction and one-on-one instruction.

      • provide written or verbal feedback on student work posted in SeeSaw or Google Classroom.

      • collect assessment information on power standards through observations, conversations, and written work.

      • formally report out progress on the power standards using SIS four times a year.

Elementary Schedules

Specific information related to your child's schedule will be communicated to you by your child's teacher. Because each teacher's schedule is created by their building's principal, you may notice some variation in the start/end times, when specials are offered, and other aspects.

Elementary Supply List

Teachers may communicate supplies needed in addition to the general supply list.
