GCF
Greatest common factor or GCF is the greatest counting number of all the given counting numbers.
LCM
Least common multiple or LCM is the least common multiple of all the counting numbers.
The Slide Method- The slide method is another way to determine the GCF and the LCM of two numbers. The best slide example I found was in our textbook. Image: (Beckman, 2022).
As you can see above you use the slide method to repeatedly find the common factors, which are listed the the left.
The slide method is extremely helpful when taught correctly. Students often confuse GCF and LCM so insuring that those two concepts are mastered prior to moving on is important. Having a general understanding of multiplication without needing assistance will make working with multiples easier as well. I throughly enjoyed learning the slide method myself as I had not been previously introduced to it. I'm excited to implement it into my classroom.
