Tier III supports are individualized, intensive interventions designed for students with persistent, high-intensity behavioral needs who have not responded to Tier I and Tier II supports. These supports are aligned with Tier I expectations and systems to ensure consistency and continuity for the student across all environments.
Effective Tier III systems include:
Supports developed through a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) that identifies the purpose or function of the behavior
A Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP) that includes:
Prevention strategies
Skill replacement teaching
Reinforcement plans
Clear, respectful responses to behavior
Data-driven, team-based problem solving with ongoing progress monitoringÂ
Wraparound supports when needed (e.g., mental health services, community partnerships)
