Hello Adams' Tigers!
We are more than half way through the 1st quarter already! Your children have already experienced a lot of learning and we are so happy to get back into the swing of things and help our students pick up where they left off. We have noticed that the disruption to learning last year has had an impact on students so we are working hard to make up for that but of course we need their #1 teacher to help us with that and that is YOU! PLEASE make sure your child always has access to books/magazines/comics they can read at home - if you need these items, please ask - we can get you some! One of the biggest factors in children's success with reading is the number of books they have in the home. Have your child read to you or you can read to them or you can take turns - you read a sentence then he/she reads a sentence. This is also a wonderful opportunity to bond with your child. Also, read your own books/magazines/newspapers in front of your child. When you model the habit of reading for them - it really makes a difference! I have asked all teachers to reach out to any parent of students that are reading below grade level to offer strategies that you can support with at home. If you have any question about how your child is performing in school, please call your child's teacher - we are here to help and we want to work with you to do this!
Thank you as always for your support!😁

Parents: Please read the What's Title I Newsletter and Parent's Right to Know. Also, please remember to sign and return the Parent Educator Compact to your child's teacher.
All lunches are free BUT we REALLY need you to fill out this form to help Adams get more Title 1 funding. PLEASE fill out this short Free and Reduced Meal Program form today.
If you send your child to school with a lunch from home, please help our cafeteria staff by making sure your child knows how to open the items in their lunch. If they haven't quite figured out how to for instance poke the straw into the Capri-Sun please help them learn at home or send them with something else - or they can always get a milk at school instead - a water bottle is even better this time of year 😅
VACCINES--What are they?
Let's face it--vaccines are scary, especially when we are thinking about giving them to our children. So, what is a vaccine? Simply, it is something that is introduced into the body, usually by injection, that prevents a disease. There are many childhood vaccines that the CDC requires for children. Among them are Diptheria--an illness that makes a membrane grow over the windpipe, and suffocates a person; Tetanus, usually contracted from a
dirty cut, which can cause very painful whole body spasms and death; Pertussis, or whooping cough, which causes severe constriction of the airways; and Measles, which is one of the most contagious illnesses known, and can cause male infertility and death, along with a lot of other serious symptoms. There are several other vaccinations that are recommended also--each one is very important!
There are a lot of myths out there, like vaccines causing Autism. This has been disproved over and over, and I recently found out that the doctor that wrote the first paper saying that a certain Measles vaccine caused Autism only did so because he was developing a rival Measles vaccine and he wanted everyone to buy his and not the other person's. He retracted his paper several years later and admitted that he made everything up. There have also been a few studies lately that are finding signs of Autism in babies even before most vaccines are even given. Another concern people have is about Mercury in vaccines. Many vaccines used to have Mercury in them for a preservative, and most have now removed it. For the vaccines that haven't totally removed it, there are only a few MOLECULES of Mercury in the vaccine. We actually have small amounts of Mercury in our body naturally, so a few molecules in a vaccine aren't a concern to our safety.
Another concern is about getting too many vaccines at once, and maybe overwhelming your child's immune system. This doesn't
happen--each vaccine only has 1 antigen in it, or up to 5 or 6 for the combined vaccines. We are exposed to hundreds of antigens daily, so a few more aren't a cause for concern.
I think the hardest part about getting our children vaccinated is just knowing that the shots hurt-- I hated watching my babies get their shots! And sometimes children get sick after vaccines, but this shows that their body is making antibodies to the disease.
The Covid vaccine will hopefully be released for younger children in the next few months. Please consider getting your child vaccinated. There are a lot of people that think a good immune system will overcome an illness, but in the case of Covid, this isn't the case, even if a someone has had the illness. Our bodies just haven't had enough exposure to this virus, and on top of that, the virus keeps changing. The best way to protect yourself, your child, and everyone around you is by getting vaccinated yourself, and vaccinating your child when it is safe to do so. There is a lot of concern because this vaccine was developed so quickly--however, the mRNA vaccines in general have been studied for over 20 years. Also, most research is a 9-5 thing. This vaccine was worked on 24/7 for 1-1/2 years, so in real terms, that is equivalent to over 4 years worth of research in real time. And over 11,000,000 people have received this vaccine with only a few side effects.
If you have any questions about any vaccines, I am very happy to answer them!
And, again, PLEASE keep your child home if they have any symptoms of illness. Don't give them Tylenol and then send them to school--you wouldn't like another parent doing this and possibly exposing your child to Covid. If your child has allergies, consider non-drowsy allergy medication to help with those symptoms, as they can be very close to Covid symptoms. And last, but not least, please consider sending a mask with your child to school. Masks help keep everyone well!
Stay healthy,
