Hello everyone, and welcome to your first challenge! I’m very excited to get this project up and running, so I hope you have fun getting creative…
Your first task is to produce a piece of Zentangle Art!
What is it?
The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing repeated or structured patterns. We call these patterns ‘tangles’.
Here are some example tangles you might want to include in your artwork...
There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way of doing it, each stroke is easy to draw, and your patterns can be anything you like. They are a great way to calm down if you are feeling anxious or just wanting some time to relax. Get comfy, put on your favourite music, and let's get going...
What do I need?
Paper
A pen (one with a fine tip is best)
A pencil
How do I create a Zentangle?
1) Choose what to draw
This can be anything you like, but it’s good to choose something with a simple outline. You could even just leave your whole page blank to fill it completely with tangles…
I chose my houseplant ‘John’ because he’s lovely to look at and has simple leaves to draw.
You could also draw something found in nature (flowers, leaves, stones, trees, beetles, ants) or could draw something that has particularly cheered you up during this time!
If you are stuck, you can use these simple templates instead…
2) Draw a very rough outline in pencil.
This does not have to be perfect. Try to fill up the majority of your page so you have more room for your zentangles.
Then, split your drawing into sections. Each section will contain a different pattern. These leaves were easy to split as they had natural lines already…
3) Fill your sections with patterns
These can be anything you like. Look at some of the tangle pattern ideas above.
4) Outline the main shape and your different sections in black pen if you wish!
Here are some more photos and examples for inspiration...
Apple slice
Chilli pepper
Egg
Close-up of leaf
Remember to send a picture of your final creation to art@morley.cambs.sch.uk by Wednesday 6th May (remember no faces, just your first name included!) and it will be posted in our Gallery section.
If you would like to share your artwork with me, but would rather it wasn't posted on the website, put 'Not for gallery' in the subject line.
Good luck, and most importantly, have fun!
