Well done to those of you who sent in photos of your fantastic Andy Goldsworthy Mandalas. They can all be seen here. .
Your challenge for the Summer Holidays is slightly longer, and should provide you with limitless creative inspiration! Your task is to create your own sketchbook, either by making your own (it's simpler than it sounds!) or adapting a bought one. You might need the help of an adult to read through some of the instructions.
A sketchbook is a place for exploring the world through drawing, writing, collecting, collaging, sorting, recording and playing with ideas. It’s important to remember that it is not a place just for ‘perfect pieces’, but a place where you can experiment with different materials and adapt and change your ideas.
We will be focusing on sketchbook skills when we all return to school after the Summer, so this is a great chance to get warmed up and used to using them!
To make your own sketchbook, click on https://www.accessart.org.uk/sketchbooks-an-online-course-for-children-families-parents-teachers/ and follow Access Art’s ‘Sketchbooks!’ online course. It is split into five parts. The first three parts show you how to make or adapt your personalised sketchbook. The last two stages ('Collage Exercise' and 'Drawing the Drawing Materials') are optional.
You can fill your sketchbook with whatever you choose to draw or create over the summer. This could be sketches of objects you see, designs of buildings, imaginary landscapes or comics! You could start your own ‘collections’ of items and adapt the pages in whatever ways you would like.
The most important thing is that you learn to experiment with different materials and ideas, and really make your sketchbook your own!
In addition to the collage and 'drawing the drawing materials' exercises, you can find some activities in the link below to fill your sketchbook with over the next seven weeks. It involves making a mini 'eight panelled' sketchbook which you could add inside your main one!

Remember to send a photo of your sketchbook (and the contents of it!) to art@morley.cambs.sch.uk by Wednesday 9th September (no faces or surnames, just first names). If you would like to share it with me, but would not like it posted in the gallery, put ‘Not for gallery’ in the subject line of the email.
I look forward to seeing all of your experiments!
