Well done for submitting your fantastic bird collages - they were all so bright and colourful, and included some very inventive materials! All of your entries can be seen in the gallery here Bird Collages
Your May half-term challenge focuses on photography skills!
You may have noticed many rainbows displayed in people’s homes and shop windows in the last few weeks as a message of hope and positivity. Damien Hirst (a very well-known artist) even created a rainbow to show support for the NHS. It is titled ‘Butterfly Rainbow’ and is made up of bands of coloured butterfly wings.
Your challenge is to take as many different textured photographs to represent each colour of the rainbow (try to get at least one photograph for each colour).
When everyone has submitted their photos, they will be displayed in the gallery to create our own Morley ‘Rainbow Spectrum’!
What are the colours of the rainbow?
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet
What is texture?
Texture refers to the ‘look’ or the ‘feel’ of something. Taking photos of the surface of objects or their ‘composition’ (what they’re made up of) can show whether they have a smooth, rough, rubbery, flaky or velvety texture.
You can find different textures everywhere- in your own home (bumpy carpets, silky cushions, smooth tabletops) or in your local parks and streets (rusty railings, rough tree bark or rippled water).
What should I send in?
Here is my example set. I took photos of different textures that represented each colour of the rainbow. You don’t need a fancy camera for this (I just used my phone!). Feel free to take more than one photo for each colour- the more the merrier.
Red (uneven texture of strawberries)
Orange (metallic texture of a coffee pot)
Yellow (silky texture of petals)
Green (rubbery texture of a leaf)
Blue
(smooth texture of the sky...almost like brushstrokes)
Indigo (soft woven texture of a blanket)
Violet (bumpy texture of clustered flowers)
Remember to send your set of photos to art@morley.cambs.sch.uk by Wednesday 3rd June and they will be posted in our Gallery section as part of our spectrum.
If you would like to share your photographs with me, but would rather it wasn't posted on the website, put 'Not for gallery' in the subject line. Remember no faces!
Have fun!
