Activity 1: Positive Classroom Environments
Project Description
Overview
Managing the learning environment starts with building a classroom climate and culture conducive to student learning and achievement.
Learning objectives
Candidates will examine attributes of a positive classroom climate and develop and apply strategies to foster a positive environment in physical and online learning settings.
InTASC Standard 3: Learning Environments.
The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.
What will you do?
In the Virtual Classroom, discuss the factors contributing to a positive school and classroom climate based on your experiences as a student or a teacher.
2. Independently,
Watch two lesson videos from the resources: one of a physical and an online lesson. Complete a vlog reflection addressing the following prompts (Prompts 1 and 2 for both videos). *Note: Each video you observe and reflect upon throughout the program is part of your field experiences.
Part 1 - How did the video demonstrate the InTASC Standard for this course (module)?
Part 2 - If you were the teacher, how would you improve this classroom experience, especially regarding developing a community of learners and a positive classroom climate?
Submit your vlog that includes both video reflections.
Candidate assignments
Create one vlog that is 2-3 minutes long, reflecting on both videos and responding to both prompts for each video.

Method Subject: English as a Second Language
As per your certification area, complete this activity as described by your M4 instructor. Then, address the following:
Reflect on the work you did in M2, exploring the ESL identification and program placement procedures for your state of licensure.
Analyze how equitable or effective your state’s identification and placement procedures are for diverse ELL populations. Consider and discuss how this relates to newcomers, refugees, native-born ELLs, migratory students, and ELLs from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Use Google or another search engine to access the program placement cut scores, enrollment numbers (percentage of student population), and reclassification rates for ELLs at at least two public schools in the state you will be licensed in. This is typically publicly available information.
Using Canva or another tool of your choice, create a presentation of 5-8 slides, including a title slide and reference slide, to explore and discuss the above, making connections among program placement policies and ELL outcomes.
Share your presentation with your Methods instructor.
Include a link to your presentation in the submission box for this activity.

Activity 2: Creating a Positive, Information-Intensive Environment
Project Description
Overview
Creating a positive, information-intensive environment requires careful planning and intentional placement of various reading, writing, and listening opportunities. Students with access to an information-intensive environment are more likely to have greater academic achievement in reading, writing, and oral language.
Learning objectives
Candidates will outline how to create an information-intensive environment with access to print and digital texts, including developmentally appropriate informational and literary choices, to enhance vocabulary and foster a positive classroom climate.
Candidates will summarize their understanding of how oral language and an information-intensive environment impact reading and writing development.
What will you do?
During the Virtual Class, discuss the importance of an information-intensive environment in both the physical and virtual classroom. Discuss the following topics:
if you were teaching when the pandemic shut down most schools in 2020, how did you ensure your students had access to print and digital texts?
how can you ensure your current students can access various developmentally appropriate texts?
how can providing an information-intensive environment enhance student vocabulary? How will this contribute to a positive classroom climate?
the impact that oral language has on literacy development. Consider how oral language and an information-intensive environment can help students develop reading and writing skills.
Independently,
research the importance of an information-intensive environment. Start with the activity resources and search in the library tab on the left side of your screen for more resources.
develop a vlog to share how having an information-intensive environment, including various developmentally appropriate print and digital texts, can enhance student vocabulary and contribute to a positive classroom climate and culture and
