Activity 1: Understanding and Implementing Digital Citizenship
Overview
Digital Citizenship is a skill that all students and adults need to be more and more aware of. As our lives become more digital, it is important to know and understand how to interact and live within the digital world. Digital Citizenship provides the groundwork for students (and adults) to be upstanding citizens when they are on their screens. As an Educational Technology specialist, you will be frequently asked to close the gap in awareness about digital citizenship and coach teachers and students on its importance, value and appropriate use.
Performance outcomes
Candidates will have a deeper understanding of Digital Citizenship as well as experience in a curriculum that could support a Digital Citizenship program in their school/district.
What will you do?
Choose two of the following digital citizenship programs, or bring in another program you are familiar with, to participate in and experience.
Be Internet Awesome- Google
Digital Compass- Common Sense Media
BrainPop Digital Citizenship
Another program/curriculum of the candidate’s choice
Participate in the program and collect artifacts or certificates of completion for each of your two choices. This could be a screenshot, PDF certificate of completion or some other artifact of participation.
After you have participated and completed the requirements within the programs, create a single review video of both programs that you choose. This is not a comparison video, just simply an independent review. If you choose to do a video for each program you may. Use screencasting and other video editing tools to engage your audience about each of the Digital Citizenship tools that you review.
At some point in your video, share the importance, using research, of why Digital Citizenship is an important addition to all classroom curriculum, giving practical examples of ways students can learn with and outside of the chosen curriculum. Be sure to cite your sources in your video. Also, include how this tool would be implemented into your specific school/district.
The video should be no longer than 10 total minutes (If you choose to do an individual video for each program, no longer than 5 min each)
On the discussion forum, discuss one challenge you face or foresee while implementing digital citizenship at your school/district. Participate with your cohort in finding solutions or alternatives to all the challenges expressed by you and your peers.

Activity 2: Producing Digital Content for Learning
Overview
One essential element of being an Education Technology professional is the ability to research, master, and instruct others on technological concepts, strategies, and tools. It is important to know how to do this synchronously and asynchronously. Creating video tutorials is one way to provide your teachers, school administration, and district quick training and information without the need for formal meetings.
Performance outcomes
Candidates will produce a training video on an effective tool for learning.
What will you do?
Choose one tool or strategy that you curated in Module 40 Unit 2 Activity 2, Digital Tools for Learning, and create a video training for teachers who have never used the tool before. Be sure to include:
An introduction of the tool
A step-by-step process of how to use the tool fully in the classroom (this may mean having multiple views of the tool - perhaps both the student and teacher view)
Provide examples (visual and verbal) of how this tool could be used in a variety of classrooms (different subjects and grade levels)
Use video editing, graphics, sound, titles, etc. to make the video engaging for the audience, and no longer than 7 minutes.
Next create a new page or blog post in your portfolio specifically for this tool. The page should be an engaging article that briefly introduces the training (objectives, expectations, etc.) and has the video embedded on the page to view.
Include a survey (such as a Google Form) on the page as well to receive feedback from your audience on the training and their next steps (no more than 4 questions).
Report requirements
Video training, no more than 7 minutes of a specific tool embedded into a new page in your portfolio.
Page on portfolio introducing chosen tool and training, with video embedded.
Feedback survey, embedded on the portfolio page to gather feedback and suggestions about the training.
