Solar panels are devices that generate electricity using the sun, allowing for equipment use with or without a connection to the power grid for periods of time.
What's its role on the lab?
The solar panels power the equipment on the trailer during farm demonstrations. Solar panels were used to minimize the emissions from the trailer, allowing for sanitization to occur in remote areas without the reliance on fossil fuels. This maintains independent operation of all technology at on-site demonstrations.
How does it work?
The solar panels use light and heat energy from the sun to generate an electric current, then transfers the current to an inverter to create usable electricity. The trailer used eight panels of 100 Watts into four generators.
What are the environmental factors?
Solar panels are influenced by temperature and weather that may cause physical blocks or not enough energy for electricity generation. The lab is equipped with multiple batteries to store extra solar energy when there is low production for continual power.
