The melting point apparatus is an essential analytical tool for characterisation and purity assessment across Monash's diverse Pharmaceutical Chemistry research projects. This digital instrument precisely determines melting, boiling or sublimation temperatures of small molecule organic compounds, natural products, crystalline APIs, polymers and other materials. Easy-to-use optics and heating blocks facilitate clear observation as samples transition from solid to liquid via a sophisticated LED cross-polarising system, indicating loss of birefringence. Supporting temperature ramp rates up to 10°C/minute with 1°C resolution coupled to automated analysis, the melting point apparatus enables reliable thermal profiling well-aligned to modern drug discovery through to quality control applications needing rapid, reproducible metrics of sample integrity and composition for advancement.
