The Akta Start is Monash Malaysia’s innovative automated chromatography system to separate and analyse biomacromolecules and biopolymers. Based on advanced FPLC technology, this instrument performs high-resolution fractionation of proteins, peptides, DNA/RNA, and polysaccharides. With precision syringe pumps, flexible injection valves, and UNICORN control software, the Akta Start enables cutting-edge projects involving recombinant proteins, synthetic biology, and natural product biosynthesis. Students and researchers frequently employ the system for techniques like protein purification via affinity, ion exchange, or gel filtration; DNA isolation; and characterisation of chemical or enzyme-based syntheses of biopolymers. With a compact design requiring small reagent volumes, plus dedicated Workstation software for rich data analysis, the Akta Start delivers enhanced experimentation capacity for modern biopharmaceutical research at Monash.
