Basic information about the Device Management Application (DMA)
Device Management Application (DMA)
In rolling out Personal Learning Devices (PLDs) for students, MOE is acutely aware of concerns regarding students’ cyber-wellness. The DMA allows the school and parents to manage this, by
collecting data on usage by the student, such as the amount of time spent on each application,
monitoring, filtering and limiting the type of websites accessible to the student, and
placing restrictions on students’ screen time in order to prevent cyber addiction.

Option A
what can the DMA do?
The DMA serves to help students in the appropriate use of the PLD primarily as a learning device. Some key features are:
Mobile Device Management Service (MDM) facilitates the updating and management of the PLDs, protects PLDs from malicious software, and protects students from objectionable internet content.
Scheduled downtime of iPads. This helps to regulate students' sleep and moderate their screen time.
Classroom management of iPad.
what are some limitations of the DMA?
Apple's "Screen Time" is disabled.
Apple's "Find my" service is disabled.
The DMA does NOT collect any of these data:
Login IDs and passwords
Activities and data (e.g. posts, online comments, shopping cart, etc.) when visiting websites and use apps
Documents and photos stored in the PLDs
PLD location
Webcam videos and microphone recordings

The DMA Parent Guides are accessible in the following clickable links: Default Option, Option A, Option B
We have included here the main differences in the 3 options in the chart for your easy reference.
Default: We highly recommend students to remain on the default option as MOE has configured the option to be suitable for most students. This includes all the web filters to undesirable sites.
Option A: Parents who are more technically savvy and would like to have more control over the use of the iPad may consider option A. This will allow for additional app purchases using your personal Apple account and control over the iPad's usage times. Please be warned that the setup process can be challenging as you will have to configure the sleep schedule and webfilters from scratch.
Option B: We highly discourage parents from opting in to Option B which disables all controls over the iPad after school hours. This increases the risk of misuse of the PLD, including increased screen time and installation of apps that distracts students learning. Note also that this option disables the location service via Mobile Guardian which will not allow you to find the iPad if it is lost/stolen.
