“Leading the Maker Programme has shown me how powerful it is when art, technology, and empathy intersect — creativity becomes a tool for positive change.”
I regularly share best practices on Maker Education with other schools through cluster learning sessions and conferences.
In 2025, I conducted a sharing session with a cluster school on our Maker Programme journey — highlighting how design thinking, student leadership, and community engagement can be integrated into the curriculum.
I also facilitate internal PD sessions for staff to explore laser cutting, digital art tools, and ways to infuse creative making into classroom teaching.
As an educator, I believe that professional growth is not a destination but a continuous journey of learning, reflection, and sharing. Every new experience — whether facilitating a workshop, collaborating with colleagues, or exploring new technologies — enriches my practice and enhances student learning.
Over the years, I have sought opportunities to develop expertise in Art, Digital Media, and Maker Education, and to share this learning within my school and across the teaching fraternity.
“When teachers learn, students flourish.”
I have conducted and participated in numerous workshops and symposiums to share best practices and inspire innovation in teaching and learning.
Cluster Symposiums (2007–2017):
Shared effective strategies for teaching digital art using tablets and design software. Conducted hands-on sessions for teachers and parents during school open houses.
Singapore International School of Bangkok (2017):
Invited to conduct a digital art workshop for teachers on integrating art and technology using iPads and Adobe software.
Xing Nan Primary School (2017):
Led a sharing session for art teachers on designing engaging digital art lessons aligned with the primary art syllabus.
W2 AED Learning Symposiums (2014 & 2015):
Served as Chairperson and facilitator, leading professional learning sessions for AEDs across the cluster to co-design solutions and share best practices.
🎨 Impact:
Built confidence among teachers in applying digital media for art creation and developed a strong community of practice among cluster schools.
AST Workshop (2017): Integrating ICT for Engaged Learning through the Active Learning Model
Invited by the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST) to lead a workshop for AEDs on designing ICT-enriched lessons that promote self-directed and collaborative learning.
RELC International Conference (2018): Reading to Writing – The Write Connection
Co-presented with English Language colleagues to share an ICT-based approach to enhance literacy through visual and written expression.
Cluster Learning Sharing (2025):
Conducted a session for teachers from neighbouring schools to share our Maker Programme journey, focusing on design thinking, digital fabrication, and student leadership development.
🧠 Impact:
Enabled cross-disciplinary integration of art, ICT, and maker tools; supported other educators in developing confidence with technology for authentic learning.
As part of my school’s professional learning culture, I actively collaborate across departments to design interdisciplinary projects that connect art, design, and sustainability.
Examples:
Collaborated with the Science and CCE departments to co-design Applied Learning (ALP) activities on sustainability using the FIDS design thinking process.
Collaborated with Math departments infusing computational thinking concepts for a group of high ability students as well as Maker recess activities.
Train teachers in using laser cutting and vinyl tools for school staff bonding sessions.
Mentored new teachers in managing makerspace resources and integrating creative learning experiences into lessons.
🌟 Leadership in Action:
Led a professional sharing session on “Infusing Design Thinking and Making into Classroom Learning” to model how teachers can design inquiry-based, hands-on learning experiences.
I continuously seek to enhance my skills as both an artist and educator.
Completed short courses at LASALLE College of the Arts in acrylic painting, mixed media, and digital art (2019 & 2023).
Regularly attend STEAM and design thinking workshops to stay current with educational innovation.
Explore emerging technologies such as AI tools, coding platforms (Pictoblox, Micro:bit), and digital fabrication to expand student learning possibilities.
“By modelling curiosity and continuous learning, I hope to inspire my students to be lifelong learners too.”
My journey in Art and Maker Education has taught me that innovation flourishes when teachers collaborate, experiment, and reflect.
As I continue to grow, I hope to:
Inspire other educators to embrace creative risk-taking.
Lead more inter-departmental Maker initiatives focused on sustainability.
Continue merging the worlds of Art, Technology, and Design Thinking to empower future-ready learners.
