Discipline-focused Competitions e.g. Olympiad Trainings, International Biomedical Quiz;
Research-Focused e.g. Science-in-Action which leads to Singapore Science & Engineering Fair;
Innovation-Focused e.g. Unity Science Challenge, STEM Playground.
Sustainability-Focused e.g. initiating Values-Action Projects to promote eco stewardship through Hydroponics and urban gardening.
For Math, the school identifies students who are talented in Math and provides them with out-of-curriculum exposures. They are also given the opportunities to participate in competitions to further develop their interests and skills. Competitions include the following:
Singapore and Asia Math Olympiad
Singapore Math Society Project Festival - Essay Writing
To continue taking HMTL in Sec 4, students are to score good results in the national MTL examination in Sec 3 and are assessed to be able to cope with the academic rigor of Sec 4 HMTL.
Students who are exempted from MTL will be doing their own self-study at the study areas during their MTL lessons.
Currently, the school does not offer Art as an O-level subject. A student may take Higher Art as an O-level subject when they apply and are successfully placed in the Art Elective programme. Higher Art is taken at another school at least one afternoon per week and it would entail additional travel time. It is also advisable that at Upper Secondary, a Higher Art student offers not more than 7 subjects in CTSS, so as to better manage the overall learning load and to be able to have time for Higher Art class at the external centre
Similarly, a student may take Music as an O-level subject when they apply and are successfully placed in the Music Elective Programme. Music at O-level is taken at another school at least one afternoon per week and it would entail additional travel time. The school similarly advises that at Upper Secondary, a Music student offers not more than 7 subjects in the school.
The cut-off point to study Pure Science subjects varies from year to year and is dependent on the cohort’s performance, as well as the availability of school resources. To offer Pure Science subjects, our students have to obtain good results in Science to ensure that they have a strong foundation in Science to cope with the demands of the subject at Upper Secondary and demonstrate strong interest in this subject.
Remedial lessons are conducted outside of curriculum time to address learning gaps of a selected group of students who require extra coaching and support. Students will be identified by their teachers and placed in groups according to their ability. These sessions will begin in Term 2 and are held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Additionally, the school provides Friday consultation sessions with teachers. We strongly encourage students to take the initiative in arranging individual or small group consultation sessions with their subject teachers.
For parents who would like to know more information on your child’s progress, you can email the subject teachers directly. Our teachers aim to respond within 3 working days.
To facilitate this communication, the school has uploaded the contact details of all subject teachers on our school website: https://www.clementitownsec.moe.edu.sg/contact-us/subject-teachers-contact-details/
In CTSS, Computing is offered as a G3 subject. At the end of Sec 2, interested students may opt for this subject if they have met the subject-specific criteria. Placement in the subject is based on academic merit, available vacancies and availability of resources.
Sec 1 students can only take Higher Mother Tongue if they meet the eligibility criteria (PSLE MTL score of AL1/AL2, or HMTL score of Distinction/Merit). Those who do not meet the eligibility criteria but are very keen to take Higher Mother Tongue, the school will offer them based on merit and recommendation of their MTL teachers at the end of Sec 1.
Students who are offered by MOE to take 3rd Language (Chinese Special Programme/Malay Special Programme/Other Foreign Languages) will be attending lessons at designated language centres.
Non-Tamil speaking students of Indian ethnicity can apply to study Non-Tamil Indian Language (Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu). These language classes are not provided by MOE and are usually conducted outside of school premises and hours. You can refer to the Board for the Teaching and Testing of South Asian Languages’ website for more information.
