Applied Learning Programme

Our Tier 1 programme involves the integration of STEM in the Lower Secondary Mathematics, Science and English Curriculum.

STEM learning is infused in Secondary 1 Mathematics lessons and through real-world projects that leverage on Computational Thinking and coding, as well as STEM-related learning journeys. 

In Secondary 2, STEM learning is infused in the Science lessons through the integrative activities.

The MARS ALP curriculum has been designed to enable students to work through problems in groups and to come up with practical solutions and real products.

The MARS Curriculum caters to the diverse needs and aspirations of STEM learning for our students.

Our Applied Learning Programme is focused on developing our Clementeens to be future-ready through the acquisition of skills that will prepare our students for the future. These skills are:

(1) Collaboration;

(2) Communication; 

(3) Creative and Critical Thinking; and 

(4) Computational Thinking. 

Students who display stronger interest and passion in STEM are offered opportunities to deepen their learning through research projects, such as the Science in Action programme (see next section in this microsite) and the AI/Computing Mentorship programme, as well as participation in various STEM-related competitions such as the Science Olympiads, the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI), the National Youth Tech Championship and SISTEMIC. 

"In working on higher level, AI-facilitated projects, one valuable lesson we have learnt is to reflect on the "must-haves" and the "good-to-haves”. This has helped us to strategically plan our project timeline and focused our efforts on the features which need to be delivered. "In lower secondary, everyone took part in Digital Applied Learning as a subject. We were given the opportunity to create various virtual designs through Python Turtle as well as programme BB-8 robots. This certainly gave everyone a taste of the field of technology, which in my case, was the start to many more opportunities given by CTSS!

During my O-level Computing lessons, I was given the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of computer systems as well as algorithmic thinking and coding with Python, which culminated in my participation in the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) 2023."

"When I was in Secondary 3, CTSS introduced me to the Swift Accelerator Programme, where I was introduced to the world of app development. Apart from app design, I learnt the importance of considering the needs of the user, such as the accessibility and design of the application. This led me to joining the IMDA Digital for Life Competition where I created an app called “Flow” with my teammates. It was a valuable experience that allowed me to apply the theories that I’ve learned in class. I can still vividly remember the days when we had to go around the school to ask other students to try our app out."
