This set of routines focusses on creating safe and seamless learning between physical and digital environments.

1.1: ACCESS
1. Bring your PLD, stylus, cable lock & earpiece with mic home and back to school every day.
2. Bring your device to the ICT Service Desk for support.
Location: ICT Service Desk (Finbarr Block, Level 4)
Operating Day(s): Mon – Fri
Operating Hours: 10am – 11 am, 2pm – 3pm
Services include:
• Resolve connectivity issues*
• Installation of DMA
• Troubleshooting of device issues*
• Collection of devices to be sent for repairs*
• Loaning a temp device during the period of repair*
• Report damage or loss of device*
*Only personal learning devices procured under PDLP device bulk tender are eligible for these services and the fortnightly collection services provided by contractors.
3. You will be loaned a device, based on availability, if your device is lost or sent for repair.
4. Approach your class ICT/Subject representative for common troubleshooting issues. e.g. Chinese Rep to know how to input Chinese font, Math rep to know how to input Math notations on SLS.
5. Go to Students PLD Portal for tutorials and videos on common troubleshooting issues.
1. Protect your PLD with a strong password and do not share it with others.
2. Check your student iCON for official announcements and communication.
3. Only open apps that are required for lessons. Close other non-relevant apps.
4. Go to the section on Getting Familiar With Your Personal Learning Device for tutorials and videos on usage of common apps and Digital Literacy Skills.
1. Always turn on your PLD and connect to the school network once your reached school. This will allow the device to sync to the correct profile (School Hours profile).
2. Check that wifi for PLDs is turned on and connected to pdlp@SSOE network. Allow all the updates to be performed.
3. Bring your device to the ICT Service Desk for assistance if required.
1.2: SECURITY
You are responsible for the safekeeping of your PLD.
Secure your PLD using the cable lock and place it at the right hand corner of your classroom desk during lessons and recess.
Place your secured PLD under the desk if its use is not required for lessons.
Never leave your PLD unsecured at all times.
Whenever classrooms are not in use, they should be locked to restrict access.
PLDs may be used during PE and CCAs. Secure them in the metal cabinets provided if they are not required.
You should report damage/loss (if any) immediately.
Bring your PLD to school and back to home every day.
Your PLD should never be stored in a vehicle for long periods of time.
Always lock your screen when you are away from your device:
On a keyboard: Press Search + L. Or press Launcher + L
Only PLDs (with DMA installed sticker) are allowed to be used during lessons. Do not modify, remove, or destroy the identification labels.
You should not attempt to access data, system and information if you are not authorised to do so.
Obtain explicit permission from the content owner before downloading, copying or sharing any copyrighted materials (e.g. pictures, videos, music).
1.3: DEVICE MANAGEMENT
Eyes up: Close the lid and pay full attention to the teacher.
Eyes down : Continue with learning on device.
Mute the audio & turn off all notifications on your Chromebook.
Make sure that you are able to login to the different learning applications before morning assembly and reset your password(s) if necessary.
When the PLD is not in use, lock your screen and close the lid.
Only open apps that are required for your learning. Close the apps that are not required.
During lessons, your teacher’s permission is required for you to:
a. use the PLD;
b. take pictures, videos or audio recordings;
c. use head/earphones.
Always slot the stylus back into housing after use.
Keep device free of any object when it is opened or closed
Make sure that there is nothing on the keyboard before closing the lid.
Carry the PLD with care. Never hold your PLD by the screen or carry it with the screen open.
When PLD is not needed for long periods of time, turn it off to conserve battery. Avoid over charging or charging while using to prolong battery life.
Ensure that your PLD is fully charged before you leave home.
For special circumstances where you are required to charge your PLD in school, you may access the charging points provided at limited designated charging areas (e.g. Upper Foyer).
The common charging points in these designated charging areas are restricted for PLDs only and not for other personal devices.
You will need to watch over your PLD during the charging process.
1.4: PERSONAL PRODUCTIVITY
When you have a task/event, do the following:
Go to your calendar or to-do list
Add the task or event. Include details such as description of task, deadline etc.
Schedule, respond to and manage event
Check your schedule daily to review the tasks to be completed or events to attend.
Organise your digital information in the following ways:
Give your files, folders or bookmarks logical and specific names e.g. Math_Chpt 4_Task 4b
Organise offline digital files into folders
Organise webpages into bookmarks
