There are 2 parts to your Oral paper.
1) Reading (10 marks)
To demonstrate your reading skill, you must:
Read with good pronunciation, clear articulation and appropriate intonation in order to convey the information, ideas and feelings in a passage.
2) Stimulus-based Conversation (SBC) (20 marks)
To demonstrate your ability to:
Express your personal opinions, ideas and experiences clearly and effectively in conversing with the examiner.
Speak fluently and with grammatical accuracy, using a range of appropriate vocabulary and structures.
Quick Tips :
Pronounce and articulate each word clearly
Be careful of letters like: th, s, k and d
Ending sounds
Pronounce the ending sounds of ‘ed’, ‘es’, ‘ing’, ‘k’, ‘t’, ‘n’ and ‘s’…etc.
Rhythm
speed, smooth delivery
Speed of reading
speed: do not read too fast.
comma: short pause
full-stop: longer pause
Volume

Expressiveness (feelings!)
Read the dialogue with feelings to reflect the mood of the character.

Reading Lesson 1 focus
The oral examination was coming up in a few days. Jessie was still coughing. She was slowly losing her voice. Jessie was worried she would not be able to speak clearly on that important day. That would be disastrous as she did not want to miss it. She wondered if there would be a make-up day for the examination if she missed it.
Jessie had been at home the last few days nursing a bad bout of flu and a nasty cough. It had started with a slight sore throat. When her condition worsened, her mother had to take her to the clinic.
“Are you feeling better?” Jessie’s mother asked, full of concern in her voice.
“A little… my throat still hurts and I think I’m losing my voice,” Jessie croaked. Her mother put her arms around her and comforted her. Jessie was glad she had a mother who took such good care of her when she was ill.
“At least your fever has gone down,” Jessie’s mother said, while gingerly placing her palm on Jessie’s forehead. “Don’t worry. You’ll get better in time to sit for the examination.”

The ten-dollar note sat in John’s palm. It was his pocket money for the week. It was not very much compared to the amount some of his classmates were getting. Nonetheless, it was sufficient.
It was lunch time and John was at the school canteen. He was about to buy himself an additional packet of snacks when he remembered the book fair which would be held at his school the next day. Being an avid reader, John had planned to buy the entire series of the “Games War” books. He had been saving up for it since the start of the year. He put the wallet back into his pocket. After all, he already had his bowl of noodles. John made a mental note to remind himself to bring his savings the next day so he could buy the set of books.
“What should we buy for Mother for her birthday? Have we saved enough money?” John’s sister asked him as they walked home from school together.
“Birthday? What? Oh yes…” John responded. He decided regrettably that the books would have to wait for the time being.
