We are learning to use reading skills to help us have a deeper understanding of the text read.

Success criteria:

• I can make predictions about the text I am reading

• I can ask questions to clarify my doubts

• I can summarise the most important ideas in the text read. 

New words / phrases:

• Line 3: stern -  unsmiling; frowning

• Lines 13 - 15: a lightbulb went off in her head

When a light bulb goes off/on (in your head), you suddenly understand something or have a great idea. After thinking about the problem for several days, a light bulb went off in her head, and she knew how to solve it.
