Activity 6 Waste Management

Our students, aged 17-18, including those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, have undertaken an in-depth exploration of the critical issue of waste management in the major city of Marseille. With a keen interest in environmental sustainability, they have documented the real-time household waste circuit through time-lapse videos, providing an eye-opening perspective on the daily journey of waste from collection to disposal.

During their investigation, they uncovered several chaotic landfill sites on the outskirts of the city. These areas are not only poorly managed but also contribute significantly to environmental degradation, causing pollution that affects both natural ecosystems and human health. The presence of pests and the uncontrolled spread of waste have exacerbated these issues, painting a distressing picture of the city's waste management practices.

The students found this experience both shocking and alarming, as it revealed the urgent need for action to address these challenges. By exposing these realities, they aim to shed light on the hidden aspects of waste management that often go unnoticed by the public. They are eager to share their findings, believing that raising awareness is the first step toward meaningful change.
