Except for staff meetings and special events in the reading room, all food should be eaten in the break room or (note: COVID policies currently prohibit eating in our break room) outside the DDC. Places to eat outside of the break room include the Hayden Porch and outdoors including the library courtyard.
Beverages, including water, must not be near files, boxes, or books, or in the reading room. Covered, non-spillable cups or bottles are recommended for use in other locations.
To help discourage such pests as mice and insects, please throw away food wrappers, cups, cans, and the like in the trash can in the kitchen area or trash cans out in the hall. Please clean up your crumbs and spills in the kitchen area including the microwave.
If you are assigned a project that creates dirt and trash, please check with your supervisor about the procedure for cleaning up. Cleaning products, paper towels, dust cloths, trash bags, a broom and dustpan are stored near the kitchen area. A vacuum is stored in the coat closet next to the reference desk. The DDC has barrels for recycling, shredding, and trash.
When researchers are in the reading room, we maintain quiet in the reading room and adjacent areas. Please hold conversations in the reference stacks or upstairs in the mezzanine. If you must use your cell phone, conduct the conversation in the hallway.
