Your supervisor will work with you to set your work schedule. Work may be scheduled when the archives is open, between 9 am and 5 pm. We are closed on Institute holidays. If you know that you cannot make a shift during your normal schedule for any reason, let your supervisor know as soon as possible so we can adjust your schedule.
Generally, we ask that shifts be no less than 2 hours. For shifts consisting of 6 hours of more, you are required to take a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
We understand that certain times during the semester can be busier than thers, particularly during midterms and finals. If you feel you will not be able to work during these times, or any other extended period of time, please discuss this with your supervisor well in advance.
We also know that your coursework and other commitments may end up requiring more time than you anticipated. It happens, but don't just ignore it. If you feel like you've taken on too much with your schedule, or are considering quitting, contact your supervisor as early as you can to address the situation.
If you need to resign, please try to give your supervisor two weeks' notice so that they have enough time to arrange a replacement for your shifts.
If you're resigning for a reason related to your work here, and you feel comfortable discussing your experience with your supervisor or another staff member, please do. We are committed to making the Libraries a safe and rewarding workplace for our students.
