MIT sometimes declares an Institute-wide emergency closing when there's severe weather, unsafe environmental conditions, or there's a threat on or near campus. When MIT closes for any type of emergency, the Libraries also close.
We can't always know what will precipitate a closing, so the best advice is to familiarize yourself with MIT's Emergency Information page, and to keep an eye out for communication from your supervisors or campus authorities when there is unusual activity on campus.
If you haven't already done so, sign up for MIT's Emergency Alert which will direct notifications to you via voicemail, email, and text message. The emergency information page linked above also includes a list of other avenues through which the Institute will try to reach you.
In case of an emergency, dial 100 on any campus telephone to reach the MIT Police.
In the case of an emergency such as a fire alarm where evacuation of our spaces is required, leave immediately and go to one of the following places to meet up with other Archives staff members.
Atrium near staircase in Bldg. 2 – if people are allowed to stay indoors.
McDermott Court next to The Great Sail sculpture – if people are directed outdoors.
